POSITION DESCRIPTION: 

Test engineering deliverables for the Electrical Systems Group (ESG) in the Supplier Development Assessment & Development (SQAD) Engineering Organization at the company in Fremont, California. This company’s ESG SQAD is responsible for innovation and problem-solving in Electrical Systems manufacturing, test, supplier quality, supply chain design, and material & supplier selection, development, and technology. 

OPPORTUNITY DETAIL: 

The contractor has an excellent opportunity to exert broad influence and direct contribution to the product engineering processes used in the development and manufacture of Wafer Fabrication Equipment (WFE) used by every leading chip maker in the world. This equipment, designed and built by the company, enables plasma etching, deposition, and wafer cleaning technologies capable of atomic-layer precision. To achieve this performance, the company systems comprise precision automated materials handling, chemical, and gas delivery systems, atmospheric & temperature control systems, ultraclean and vacuum technologies and special-purpose materials, all controlled by a company-developed software and hardware systems. To ensure the highest operational reliability, the company Tool Control System requires electrical and electronic components including industrial computers, analog and digital Printed Circuit Board Assemblies (PCBAs) and OEM power supplies interconnected with optical and electrical cabling harnesses. These electrical components are supplied to the company by a worldwide network of highly technical suppliers and contract manufacturers who are managed and guided by the Electrical Systems Group of the company’s SMT Engineering organization. 

POSITION OBJECTIVES & BENEFITS: 

The Test Engineering Contractor will: 

  • Act as a Project Manager of Supplier PCBA Test Specifications and Solutions including the timely development, qualification, and production deployment of automated Test Fixtures and Equipment. 
  • Coordinate the Test Spec definition with product group and Test Implementation details with suppliers. 
  • Act as a Data Analyst implementing and monitoring PCBA manufacturing and test equipment critical parameters for process stability (i.e. control charting, SPC, etc…). 
  • Author PCBA Test solutions and content in the production phase to ensure robust coverage. 
  • Implement PCBA Test Solutions including from manual bench testing through automated test suites. 
  • Combine any PCBA-related manufacturing issues with external customer issues and use this knowledge to improve test processes and coverage and prioritize the findings for respective supplier engineers. 
  • Travel to company Supplier manufacturing locations to conduct situational assessments, audits, and investigations, applying learnings to systematic and lasting product and process improvements 

REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: 

BS in Computer or Electrical Engineering and >5 years of experience in the following areas: 

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for purposes of teaching, investigating, and influencing team members and stakeholders up to and including internal and external executives 
  • PCBA and component life cycle management: Specification, Manufacture, Assembly, Test/Inspection, and Sustaining 
  • Electrical measurement equipment familiarity, including: DMM, LCR, & Milli-ohm Meters, Hi-Pot/Ground Bond Testers, Function Generators, Oscilloscopes, Spectrum Analyzers 
  • Working knowledge of: SPC, Cpk, DOE, GR&R (MSA), 5-Why, 6S/7W, t/F tests, box plots, 8D, Ishikawa diagrams 
  • Working knowledge of electrical & mfg standards (Semi S2, OSHA, ISO9000/14000, RoHS, UL, IEEE, MIL, IPC 610/620) 
  • Working knowledge of: Labview, C#, Python, Twincat, Ethercat, Lonworks and/or National Instruments hardware a plus 
  • Semiconductor equipment system and component knowledge 
  • Techniques and equipment used in inspecting and testing optical and copper cable harnesses 
  • Ability to analyze schematic functionality and test strategies for: Power Supplies, PCBAs, and computers 
  • Working Knowledge of PCBA manufacturing, inspection, and test processes 
  • PMP or PMI Certification a plus
