In this key position, the Electrical Engineer develops and tests the electronic systems of an innovative orthodontia medical device, considered the heart of the system. The incumbent will use his/her extensive knowledge in electronics circuit design to produce an electronics package supporting Bluetooth communications, wireless charging, and embedded firmware control of multiple LED arrays. All while conforming to ambulatory use of the product made possible by leveraging optimized energy consumption from a LiPO battery.   
This position will work extensively with multiple engineering disciplines as well as providing subject matter expertise to a global supply chain, to achieve the objective of producing a low cost and high quality medical device product that could potentially bring new smiles to millions of people around the world.  

  • Participates within, identifies and documents design requirements for electronics systems associated with the control of LED arrays, wireless charging and Bluetooth communications 
  • Using applicable engineering design tools, designs electronic flexible and rigid Printed Circuit Board Assemblies (PCBA) producing complete electrical design packages including but not limited to: electrical schematics, board layout [outline, thickness, soldermask / slikscreen layout, BOM, board array, score/tab, etc.] and Gerber files 
  • Works cross functionally with software and hardware engineers to design, develop, execute and document Validation and Verification activities including embedded firmware   
  • Serves as a primary cross departmental interface to perform electronics failure diagnostics and implements approved solutions for systemic issues 
  • Works closely with the research and innovation center, supporting the development of next generation product lines 
  • Serves as a primary interface with suppliers supporting procurement of low volume prototypes to full scale commercial production.   
  • Implements DFM input and leverages readily available technology designs and implements testing tools for the use in R&D development and scaled manufacturing operations. 
  • Analyzes equipment and operating data, conducts experimental tests, evaluates results and provides recommendations for implementation 
  • Participates in the development and execution of cost reduction project plans, supporting low cost scaled commercial production 
  • Performs other duties as assigned  


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent 
  • 8+ years of related experience. Master’s Degree strongly preferred 
  • Sound understanding of the principle of electrical circuits, including analog and digital circuit 
  • Experience with microcontrollers and their embedded firmware, familiar with BLE protocol 
  • Experience in designing multi-layered flexible and rigid PCBA using surface mount components (IC’s, resistors, CAPs, LED’s, connectors, etc), firmware controlled LED circuits, Bluetooth communications, LiPO battery circuits and wireless charging 
  • History of working with suppliers to implement medium volume (thousands per month) production with specific expertise in flex/rigid PCBA circuit manufacturing processes (i.e. reflow, pick and place, etc. 
  • Experience in optimizing energy budget evaluation and optimization, with a thorough understanding of LiPO battery functionality and LIPO battery power management 
  • Experience implementing Bluetooth commutation circuits specifically connecting with handheld devices utilizing an application interface for both iOS and Android 
  • Experience in developing wireless and wired charging circuitry 
  • Experience in designing, implementing and executing product performance / life tests including HALT, Saltspray, etc. 
  • Solid understanding of RoHS, IPC and applicable ANSI standards 
  • Experience with IEC60601-1 4th edition, including EMC, electrical safety requirement 
  • Intimately familiar with the design, development and use of diagnostic tools supporting testing and troubleshooting including but not limited to oscilloscope, multi-meter, bed of nails test platforms, etc. 
  • Experience with Orcad or other similar design tools 
  • Experience with Labview or other similar SW 
  • Experience in writing, testing and deploying embedded firmware strongly preferred 
  • Experience in light path analysis and optimization strongly preferred  


  • Working knowledge of the medical device industry strongly preferred 
  • Willingness to author and produce engineering documentation compliant with established Quality Management Systems processes 
  • Self-starter with desire to work in a fast-paced start-up environment (thrives on action) 
  • Goals and objectives oriented with emphasis of project completion within established time and cost requirements 
  • Critical thinker and uses data to support recommendations and actions 
  • Ability to travel (up to 30%) 
  • Thorough working knowledge of personal computer systems and desktop office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
