This company is developing a completely new battery technology that offers longer cycle life, lower cost, and higher power and efficiency than existing batteries. These batteries offer massive performance advantages over incumbent technologies for stationary applications requiring high power and long cycle life. This company is backed by leading venture capital firms and has support from ARPA-E. This company seeks a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to design prototype battery pouch cells and the modules and packs containing them. The occupant of this position will work in a small team of product engineers to solve challenges in cell design including design optimization for electrochemical, thermal, and mechanical performance and manufacturability. He or she will also execute battery prototyping projects including building, testing, and troubleshooting prototype modules and packs. The person for this position is capable of executing complex engineering projects involving design, sourcing, prototyping, validation, and technology hand-off.
That person is a passionate, creative, goal-oriented engineer who is comfortable developing new concepts and designs. This position requires extensive hands-on work.
-- Conceive, design, fabricate, and assemble prototype battery cells, modules, and packs.
-- Lead and/or support design projects for production-ready battery product prototypes.
-- Document and present new product designs including relevant thermal, mechanical, and electrical analyses.
-- Assist engineers and scientists in designing, fabricating, and assembling custom test fixtures.
Experience and Skills:
-- Bachelors or Masters degree in mechanical engineering or a related field.
-- At least 2-5 years industrial engineering experience in design of batteries, fuel cells and other energy generation/storage products, power electronics, or electronic systems.
-- Fluency in modeling software including SolidWorks and ANSYS, as well as Excel-based modeling and other engineering software.
-- Significant experience in conceiving, designing, and prototyping new products.
-- Ability to convert product requirements into potential product designs.
-- Experience with the fabrication of metal and plastic components.
-- Experience using GD&T drafting standards.
-- Experience working closely with suppliers to determine manufacturing feasibility of new designs
