Job Summary 

Director, Cost Accounting and Inventory Management manages and provides effective preparation, analysis, and insight of inventory and COGS.  As an integral member of the Finance and Operations team, this position tells the story of significant cost drivers affecting Inventory and COGS to senior management.  This position requires excellent analytical skills, experience in cost accounting and inventory management, and the ability to perform at high levels in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.  


  • Manage the cost accounting manager and other operations accounting staff members 
  • Provide senior management effective understanding and analysis of inventory and COGS actual results, budget development, and variance reporting 
  • Partner with the Operations team to understand materials cost drivers and cash out timings 
  • Manage monthly inventory and COGS analyses 
  • Manage COGS functions, including inventory transactions, gross margin analysis, and variances. Provide detailed inventory reconciliation and COGS analytics 
  • Develop, maintain, and improve inventory records and cost data in accordance with US GAAP and SOX internal control requirements 
  • Manage and review inventory related reconciliations and inventory reserves 
  • Drive cycle count and annual physical inventory internal audit, and support annual external audits 

  Analytical Responsibilities 

  • Effectively tell the story of significant drivers affecting COGS 
  • Partner with the Operations team to develop and implement ongoing cost savings strategies, and benchmarking 
  • Partner with the Operations and Finance teams to review cost drivers 
  • Identify workflow inefficiencies and propose solutions to streamline processes  

Education, Experience, Skills 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance. 
  • 7+ years of accounting experience 
  • Broad knowledge of cost accounting and inventory management principles, systems, and procedures 
  • Experience in a MRP environment; Experience implementing & managing MRP systems 
  • Ability to create and document internal control procedures and processes. 
  • Exceptional attention to detail 
  • Innovative and able to thrive in a high paced environment. 
  • Strong interpersonal/communication skills and the ability to deal effectively with a variety of personnel including scientific, commercial and operational staff 
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills 
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to adhere to timelines 
  • Proactive and timely problem solver
