POSITION SUMMARY

  • Responsible for mechanical system architecture of acoustic products, which include mechanical structural design, implementing industrial design (ergonomics, I/O, mounting, component volumetric constraints, etc.) and major component placements within concept and industrial designs, EMI considerations, electrical and thermal conductivity and materials selection.
  • Create electro-mechanical designs using Pro/Engineer Wildfire/Creo for plastic, die cast or thixo-molded, extruded, rubber and sheet metal components.
  • Interface with multiple internal partners (Industrial Design, Product Management, Sourcing,
  • Manufacturing, Acoustic, Electrical, and RF Engineering) and external partners (contract manufacturers, consultants, and suppliers)
  • Develop and implement accelerated tests to mitigate risks and qualify engineering designs during concept and product development; applying Design of Experiments (DOE) concepts to develop test plans to identify root causes and improve product robustness and performance.
  • Perform and document mechanical analysis, collateral, presentation materials, engineering documentation, appearance models, and prototypes.
  • Participate in tool design reviews and drive the part qualification process using statistical tools and process capability studies.
  • Monitor product performance in the field and work closely with manufacturing and component partners to perform failure analysis; drive corrective action.
  • Work closely with Asian suppliers on co-development and execution of your designs.

 

 
Required Experience:
-         Minimum of BS degree (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering or a related field. 7+ years work experience in product development in consumer electronics or electro-mechanical hardware design.

  • Strong knowledge of mechanical engineering development with best practices in plastics, extrusions, stampings, castings, elastomers, thermal, EMI/RFI, cabling, mechanical assemblies and tooling.
  • Knowledgeable about tooling process for concept, development and mass production.

-         Deep understanding of product quality metrics and methods.

  • Familiarity with MRP/ERP documentation management system and BOM / specification creation.
  • Proficiency with Pro/Engineer Wildfire/Creo with demonstrated track record of product design methods.
  • Experience developing Design of Experiments to evaluate and determine design directions.
  • Experience developing mechanical function, environmental stress and accelerated life tests to evaluate product performance.
  • Experience dealing with compliance and reliability issues.
  • Ability to multi-task, work quickly, accurately and communicate effectively with team members..
  • Experience creating complete design/documentation packages for production..
  • Ability to work in a team setting to carry a design from concept to manufacturing and execute at a high quality bar.
  • Talent for troubleshooting design issues as they arise.
  • Ability to prototype models in order to evaluate new concepts and reduce risk.
  • Works independently and as part of a team. * Fluency in both written and oral English.
  • Ability to prepare clear and concise written reports and presentations.
  • Able to organize design reviews and lead technical discussions.
  • Ability to travel approximately 25% annually (sometimes with little notice) * Manufacturing experience in volume production.

 

 
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Familiarity with Acoustic driver design practices and cabinetry.
  • Creativity in developing engineering solutions
  • CAE experience/capabilities (both structural and thermal desired).
  • Fluency in Mandarin Chinese a plus
