Senior Mechanical Product Design Engineer

REPORTS TO: VP OF ENGINEERING

JOB PURPOSE

Our Product Engineers are results driven and detail-oriented with a can-do attitude, collaborative style and high-energy approach.

This opportunity requires the ability to drive the design qualifications and manufacturing process across organizational and company boundaries by building consensus.

You will be leading and contributing to the mechanical design, manufacturing and DFx efforts for our next generation LiDAR products as well as the sustaining mechanical engineering activities for our current products.

Experience in designing consumer products for medium-to-high volume manufacturing is essential.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsibilities include concept generation, product design, prototype creation and demonstration, component and module integration, product analysis and testing through mass production process, equipment development, and manufacturing ramp-up (both internal and contract).

  • Hands-on design and test of LiDAR products with multiple laser emitters and sensors
  • Develop conceptual and final mechanical and electro-mechanical product, interconnects, tooling and fixture designs using Solidworks
  • Perform tolerance analyses and complete GD&T specifications
  • Generate and maintain schedules and conduct brainstorming sessions and design reviews
  • Timely deliver reliable, manufacturable and cost effective designs, products and fixtures
  • Key team member helping to identify and qualify suppliers for the design and/or delivery of mechanical and electro-mechanical components, subassemblies, interconnects, and tooling
  • Deliver and document requirements, designs and assembly and validation procedures

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 10+ year of relevant experience
  • Hands-on and recent experience with Solidworks or equivalent design tool
  • Experienced with mechanical and electro-mechanical component design, build and test
  • Experienced with low cost / medium volume product design and validation
  • Experienced with rapid prototyping techniques and component molding, casting, interconnects, machining and assembly
  • Proven project and team leadership skills
  • Experienced with developing and delivering low mix and medium volume electro-mechanical products for the consumer and/or instrumentation market or equivalent
  • Experience with DFx (DFM, DFC, DFR, etc.)
  • Familiar with PLM processes and tools such MS Project and Agile, Arena or equivalent
  • Experience with working with external partners and suppliers on time critical projects
  • Team player, self-motivated and open minded
  • MS in ME with extensive experience with the design and manufacturing of consumer or instrumentation products or similar
  • Familiar with Microsoft Office tools Excellent presentation and communication skills
  • Willingness to travel up to 10%
  • Formal training in the design of electromechanical components and assemblies preferred
  • Knowledge of opto-mechanical design and build is a plus
