RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Collaborate with product and industrial designers on material selection, design feasibility and aesthetics of new plastic part designs.

  • Establish and manage relationships with material suppliers to identify emerging technologies and collaborate on new material development to meet our needs.

  • Own and advance in-house material testing capabilities using tensile/compression testing; identify and acquire other equipment deemed necessary to characterize product materials. Write and maintain processes for performing in-house tests.

  • Lead material testing efforts either in-house or outside labs to support early evaluation using finite element analyses

  • Create material performance specifications for new material development efforts and selection based on end application requirements.

  • Be the technical librarian of all material properties data at our company.

  • Work with injection molding vendors and our SBEs (Supplier Based Engineers) to troubleshoot manufacturing issues, optimize processes and implement processing parameter control to maintain high yield and quality.

  • Aside from plastics, push the technology on structural adhesives, rubbers, and foams used in our products.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A minimum of a BS degree in Polymers Engineering, Materials Engineering, Materials Science, Chemistry (or other materials related field with a polymers focus).

  • 10+ years work experience in a materials engineering and polymers in consumer electronics industry.

  • Experience developing Design of Experiments to evaluate and determine design directions.

  • Ability to multi-task, work quickly, accurately and communicate effectively with team members.

  • Work independently and as part of a team.

  • Fluency in both written and oral English.

  • Ability to prepare clear and concise written reports and presentations.

  • Able to lead reviews and technical discussions

  • Ability to travel approximately 25% annually (sometimes with little notice)

  • Manufacturing experience in volume production including familiarity with statistical process control

  • People management experience

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Familiarity with Acoustic design practices.

  • Experience and capability in structural FEA methods and tools

  • Fluency in Mandarin Chinese a plus
