As a Solid State Drive (SSD) Firmware Development Engineer, you will develop high-performance controller firmware for innovative volatile and non-volatile memory systems. In this position, you will assist in performing failure analysis, evaluating, designing, and building firmware for new high-performance memory controllers and SSD's that will increase performance, while reducing power, latency and SoC complexity for the target markets. You can expect to work closely with system test engineers, system failure analysis engineers, firmware engineers, firmware test engineers, system hardware design engineers, product engineers, memory design engineers, and production engineers to solve cross-functional product development issues.
 
Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Participate as a team member and work effectively inside and outside of the team.
  • Provide technical input back to the team.
  • Validate customer requirements
  • Perform failure analysis on product development issues
  • Develop structured source code targeting the embedded environment associated with state of the art memory.
  • Performing design verification using a variety of verification methods, including simulation and product testing
  • Focusing on firmware quality in the system and the target application.
  • Participate in SCRUM/agile processes and distributed code reviews.
  • Developing new test tools and methods.
  • Using analysis equipment or software, you will demonstrate the effective analysis of functional or performance issues with the firmware and hardware in test environments or target host systems.

Successful candidates for this position will have:

  • Experience designing and developing firmware using assembly and C/C++ programming
  • Proficiency and strong debugging skills in an embedded firmware application.
  • Proficiency in using development tools and IDE's such as Slick Edit, SourcePoint and Realview.
  • The ability to analyze complex firmware and hardware issues.
  • A high level of skill in problem re-creation and trapping as well as identifying and optimizing performance of critical algorithms.
  • Hands-on experience in firmware development and verification, system failure analysis, and problem solving.
  • The ability to find creative solutions to difficult problems.
  • A working knowledge of digital hardware design and test equipment such as In-Circuit Emulators (ICE) and logic/bus analyzers (highly desired).

Desired skills include:

  • Flash or rotating mass storage experience a plus. This includes eMMC, UFS, SAS, SATA, NVMe, ONFI interface knowledge.
  • ARM Cortex Microprocessors and toolchains
  • Python development experience.
  • Knowledge of high density NAND storage technology.
  • Working knowledge of digital hardware design a plus
  • Experience in high volume, low cost product development

Experience:

  • Typically requires 1 to 10+ years of experience in embedded firmware development, depending on required title.
  • Hands on experience in firmware development and verification, system failure analysis and problem solving. 

Education:

BS/MS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or Computer Science or similar degree or equivalent experience
