JOB SUMMARY The primary job role is to lead the transition of developmental lens prototypes, from laboratory to pilot scale, in preparation for clinical evaluation.


  • Support the development of new lens prototypes, through pilot lab trials and clinical lens fabrication.
  • Design of experiments, data analysis and reporting.
  • Hands-on management of lens development trials.
  • Writing of SOP’s, Qualification protocols, technical study reports.
  • Identify process improvement areas, and initiate, manage and deliver solutions, using a data driven approach.
  • Establish and maintain good cross functional relationships across the organization.



  • Solid understanding of chemical/mechanical engineering fundamentals.
  • Excellent experimental planning skills.
  • Fundamental knowledge of statistical techniques.
  • Strong computer skills. Experience with MS Software and Minitab is required.
  • Enthusiasm, drive; flexibility and adaptability.
  • Excellent team working skills; excellent communication skills both written and oral.
  • Adheres to Standard Operating Procedures, Safety and Regulatory requirements.

  • Knowledge of FDA Regulations and ISO Requirements is a plus.
  • Understanding of contact lens manufacturing processes is a plus.
  • Working knowledge of basic contact lens chemistry (polymer/organic chemistry, analytical techniques)


  • The individual will be required to work in professional office environment as well as manufacturing areas and laboratories
  • Ability to work a flexible work schedule when necessary
  • Prolonged hours of using a computer
  • The role will require the individual to come into contact with hazardous materials or working environments. The individual might be required to wear/use the appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) for the task in hand outlined in SOP's including items such as lab coat eye protection and gloves.


  • BS Degree  (or higher) in Chemical, Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering discipline with 4 years of related experience; MS plus 2+ years of related experience


  • Up to 4 years relevant experience depending degree level
