POSITION: Principal Electrical Design Engineer

REPORTS TO: Director, R&D / Engineering

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The Principal Electrical Design Engineer will be responsible for electrical designs of battery powered system components, including schematic capture, some layout, and interfacing with board fabrication and assembly vendors. As a principal engineer position, the candidate will have full ownership of electrical design, and help oversee other engineer's contributions. The candidate will have system level knowledge in order to make architectural tradeoffs in hardware, and to help optimize system design. Testing of new designs and documentation of results is expected. Design, development, testing, and iteration of quick-turn prototypes is a portion of the responsibilities as well, as proof-of-concept

applications of our core technology. This engineer will interface closely with firmware and mechanical engineers to develop new exciting products.

REQUIRED BACKGROUND:

* B.S. in Electrical Engineering, M.S. preferred

* 10+ years of experience as an Electrical Design Engineer

* Experience with battery powered designs, with space and cost constraints

* Schematic capture and Layout capabilities (Altium preferred)

* Ability to demonstrate concepts with quick turn prototype circuits

* Electro-mechanical experience and a "maker" attitude

* Lab equipment experience, and prototyping/soldering experience

 

PREFERRED:

* Previous of experience developing an embedded system and understand the tight integration of software and hardware.

* Experience with near field magnetic induction, Bluetooth, and RF.

* Experience designing products for high reliability applications (Automotive, Aerospace, Military, Medical)

* Experience with communication buses, development, and debugging: I2C/I2S/SPI/UART

* Experience triggering events and developing tools to aid with logic analyzers, scope, bus, and state capture.

* Experience developing diagnostics and hardware bring-up scripts and tools.

* Use of LabView, Python, etc. to create automated test fixtures and data acquisition systems

* Working knowledge of Matlab

* Always looks to challenge the 'old ways' and ability to learn.

* Adapt and adjust quickly according to team needs.

* Communication and accountability to the team are paramount.
