Determining what to measure and how to measure it is one of the most important decisions one can make to ensure a successful manufacturing process. That is why Pacific Biosciences is looking for a skilled engineer for a new position in our Manufacturing Engineering team to focus on all aspects of metrology. This team is responsible for the transfer and scale-up of Pacific Bioscience’s SMRT Cell manufacturing line. The metrology engineer is responsible for transferring, validating, and improving various types of critical measurements including optical microscopy, electron microscopy, defect inspection and functional metrology for the SMRT Cell product line. The candidate will interface with both Research & Development and high volume Manufacturing teams

Responsibilities:
• Work closely with R&D and outside vendors on develop and evaluate new Metrology techniques and procedures
• Transfer and scale-up of all metrology methods (optical microscopy , electron microscopy, functional metrology)
• Work with Manufacturing to evaluate current Metrology methods and propose & implement continuous improvement projects
• Establish measures for product qualification and monitor production yield.
• Development of optical metrology to establish quantitative measures for product specifications
• Improve image analysis methods & techniques to ensure consistent measurement quality and decreased labor costs

 

Position Requirements:
• Ph.D. or MS degree in Physics, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Electrical Engineering, or related scientific and engineering disciplines.
• Experience with sophisticated optical metrology techniques
• Experience with defect inspection and analysis tools
• Experience with electron microscopy technique
• Experience in Manufacturing Engineering role or NPI – with specific experience transferring processes
• Strong analytical skills and statistical analysis and methods
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills & interpersonal relationship skills
• Image Analysis algorithm development capability
